Cooperation with Poland

The Polish side has accepted for discussion the authority of the Cabinet to confirm citizenship of Belarus with the subsequent issue of passports

Last week representatives of the United Transition Cabinet had a number of official meetings with top Polish officials, including President Andrzej Duda, Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Glinski, Sejm Marshal Elżbieta Witek, heads and representatives of the Interior Ministry and Administration, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Culture and National Heritage as well as EU ambassadors.

On the importance and the results of such a busy week of official meetings said Paul Latushko, deputy head of the Cabinet:

  • "Our cooperation with Poland and the Western world is gradually reaching the institutional level. The Cabinet is building a system of interaction to promptly solve the problematic issues of the Belarusians.”

  • "In my memory, there has never been a visit of a prime minister or other official from Belarus in the history of bilateral relations, during which there were so many meetings with the Polish leadership. In fact, this is a political recognition of the Cabinet."

  • "The Sejm has begun discussing a resolution on Belarus. At a meeting of the foreign affairs committee, all the deputies took turns saying 'enough celebrating with the dictatorial regime'."

  • "At a meeting with Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminski, the Cabinet made proposals to impose new sanctions on all those who support the war against Ukraine, have to do with repression against Belarusians and the Polish national minority."

  • "The Polish side accepted for discussion the authority of the United Transitional Cabinet to confirm the citizenship of Belarus with the subsequent issuance of passports. So far, Warsaw has started issuing special travel documents to Belarusians who, for one reason or another, have lost their passports and are in Poland for humanitarian reasons. A permanent joint working group has been created to solve problematic issues."

  • "There will be a bilateral working group of the Cabinet with the Ministry of Finance of Poland. Magdalena Rzeczkowska, the head of the ministry, agreed with this. Thus, we establish an institution to solve the problems of opening accounts, opening and doing business by Belarusians in Poland."

  • "The central theme of the government delegation's visit to the Foreign Ministry was the possibility of creating a coalition of countries that would take an active stance in support of a democratic Belarus."

  • "Minister of Education and Science Przemysław Czarniek assured of his readiness to allocate funds for the development of Belarusian Sunday schools, studies of the Belarusian language and literature. The result of negotiations with representatives of the Ministry of Education was an agreement to create a joint working group, which will be headed by its representative Alina Kovshyk on the part of the Cabinet."

  • "At the meeting at the Ministry of Health, we saw that they understand the problems of Belarusian doctors who face difficulties in confirming their education and qualifications. For example, with the lack of an apostille due to the impossibility of putting it in Belarus. Representatives of the Ministry confirmed their readiness to solve these problematic issues in the interests of Belarusians.”
