For children, it is very important not to forget their roots
"Addressing the children, I would like to say: you must respect and honour your teachers. These are the people who give you the world, who lay the foundation for your future life. And here, if you allow me, first of all I would like us to applaud the director, Mr. Ales Lozka, and all the teachers who care about preserving Belarusian identity here in Poland and who teach our children. Thank you very much," said Pavel Latushka, Deputy Head of the United Transitional Cabinet and Head of the NAM, during the opening of the school year at Adam Mickiewicz Primary School No. 187 in Warsaw. Belarusian children will study at the school on Saturdays.
Pavel Barkouski, Representative of the United Transitional Cabinet for National Revival, also took part in the opening ceremony of the school year.
"I would like to sincerely thank the administration of the Warsaw school and the Polish authorities for giving our children from Belarus the opportunity to continue studying the Belarusian language, history and culture in Poland. The Polish and Belarusian peoples are very close. We are united by Moniuszko, Kościuszko, Ogiński, the Radziwiłłs and, of course, Mickiewicz, and this list is truly very long.
I am convinced that children who study abroad, in emigration, in these somewhat difficult conditions, will truly become the elite of our Belarusian nation. Remember this and study well.
Thank you to the parents, because I understand that this requires extra effort: bringing the children here and teaching them the Belarusian language and culture. Thank you very much for this civic act, for remembering where we come from. For children, it is very important not to forget their roots. Congratulations on the start of the school year!" added Pavel Latushka.
Pavel Latushka made a personal donation of 1,000 Polish zloty to the school's foundation.
It is worth noting that the school currently runs classes from grade 0 to grade 8. This year, 30 children became new pupils, and in total more than 60 children from Belarus will study at the school.
