Poland will not allow the 'Belarusian theme' to be forgotten in the international arena

“The Ministry of Justice of Poland will pay special attention to human rights violations in Belarus,” noted Deputy Minister of Justice of Poland Krzysztof Smiszek during a meeting with the deputy head of the United Transitional Cabinet of Belarus, Head of the National Anti-Crisis Management Pavel Latushka.The meeting took place on January 4 following the agreements with the new Minister of Justice of Poland, Adam Bodnar.

The Polish side conveyed a welcoming speech from the new minister and expressed their commitment to restoring the rights of victims of gross violations of human rights and international crimes in Belarus.

Pavel Latushka provided detailed information about the current situation in Belarus, particularly emphasizing the daily repression and violence against the civilian population. The Polish side was given comprehensive information about war crimes committed by the highest military-political leadership of the Lukashenko regime against civilians in Ukraine, particularly minors.

The need to hold the top military-political leadership of the Lukashenko regime accountable for crimes of aggression against Ukraine was emphasized, and Pavel Latushka presented the main directions of the National Anti-Crisis Management's work in bringing Lukashenko to justice.

During the meeting, the following points were discussed:

  • A request was made to the Polish side for assistance in advocating for bringing Lukashenko to justice for the war crimes and crimes against humanity he committed at the International Criminal Court (ICC);

  • The Polish side proposed the creation of a working group between the Polish Ministry of Justice and the National Anti-Crisis Management to develop and implement specific mechanisms to ensure Lukashenko's criminal liability;

  • The importance of addressing Lukashenko's responsibility for his involvement in aggression against Ukraine was highlighted by one of the leaders of the Polish Ministry of Justice.

Krzysztof Smiszek assured that necessary efforts would be made to advocate for Lukashenko's responsibility in international criminal mechanisms. The Deputy Minister of Justice emphasized that the new government would not allow Belarus to be forgotten on the international stage.

The Polish side proposed continued regular contacts to ensure the implementation of the discussed issues.
